A Fine French Empire ormolu or gilt bronze and Agate hardstone Papier Presse or paper weight, desk ornament. French, circa: 1800-1810. Measuring: 3" wide by 2.25" high. Weight: 3 pounds.

The paperweight depicts cupid or Amor in miniature form, hiding in a bowl of berries. He stands upright resting his hands upon his bow. His rear depicts his uncovered bottom displaying his quiver of arrows upon his back. He stands patiently and silently ready to shoot an arrow of 'love ' into his next unexpecting mortal.

Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.
