A Fine Charles X period Ormolu or gilt bronze mounted Mother of Pearl box
with key hole. This box although very
Empire and Neoclassical fall under the reign of the Charles the X period which followed directly after the Empire period.
French, circa: 1815-1825. Measuring: 3" wide by 2" deep by 1.75" high.
Lost wax method was used to
create the very fine detail and high quality cast and gilded bronze
mounts that are mercury gilded. The gilding is all original
and in tact.
.
Alas the key is no where to be found but this does
not affect the integrity of the piece. The inside still boasts its original
mirror in the surface of the lid. The mirror does
have one hair line crack. I would
not change this mirror at all since its original and period and shows the
loss of silver acquiring great character.
