European, probably French, circa: 1800's. Measuring:Image 8.5" X 9.5" Framed: 18.5" X 19.5" .

Fine and true Museum example of animal painting is superbly
executed. Thick and generous use of paint, the artist painted layer
upon layer creating this outstanding scene of a monkey painting in a
room among various objects that would be found in an artist studio.
artist signed far right bottom in red, indistinctly.
Framed in its period
Water gilt wood frame bearing most of its original gilding. There is a
similar example of this type of work in the Louvre and may be
connected with that artist, either by him , his studio, or one of his
students. This is much finer in person. A real gem. |
