French Louis XV Bronze Ormolu Sevres Porcelain Vase
A Fine Louis XV ormolu or gilt bronze mounted Sevres porcelain vase. French, circa: 1765. Measuring: 16" high by 9" wide. Weight: 8 pounds.

The Sevres porcelain urn is comprised of the three separately made porcelain sections, the upper body, socle support and square stepped plinth base. The hard paste porcelain is decorated in Cobalt blue and white ground color, fire gilt design work is viewed over the entire form. Supporting the porcelain socle is a round gilt bronze rim mounted with four berry-leaf corners. The stepped porcelain plinth is mounted and further supported by a bronze plinth exhibiting twin-goat hooved feet on each corner.

Original internal hardware still present and sound and may be dismantled at will for detailed examination. The porcelain socle underside internally is impressed under glaze with "R" most probably indicating the porcelain gilder and or artist specifically working on the piece at the Sevres factory at the time. Bottom of bronze plate carved with Sevres interlaced L's and date letter "M" in center indicating the year 1765.

Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.

Condition of porcelain is strong, stable, and intact. The vase bears minimal 19th century restoration ( 1850-1880 ) to upper lip, lower section of upper body at place of socle, small rim area top of socle. Visible fractures and or old fire cracks in these areas visible but sound and have been present for over a century.
