A Fine Louis XVI gilt bronze Ormolu and enamel snuff box. French, circa: 1775-1785. Measuring: 2.75" wide by 2." deep by 1." high.
The box reveals and oval inset enamel miniature painting of a lady in a landscape holding something above a bird who appears to be quite interested. The oval plaque exhibits a cobalt blue border with raised gilt detailing. Some minor rubbing to a few gilt beads lower left. Enamel area with figure in excellent condition. Bottom of box reveals a floral center design finished in Tri-color gilding.
Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.
