French Directoire Bronze & Ormolu Three Light Sconce

Fine French Directoire single ormolu or gilt bronze and patinated bronze Three light wall sconce. Although very Empire and Neoclassical this item is from the Directiore period from the 18th century the period just before the First French Empire period began. French Circa: 1795-1800. Measuring: 11" wide by 8.25" high. Weight: 8-10 pounds.
The backplate depicts a face with full cheeks blowing outward. The Three arms emerge from the mouth of the figure supporting detailed ormolu candle-nozzles in the form of arrows shooting through contrasting patinated bronze spheres.
Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. Original patina present and intact. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.
