French Louis XVI Ormolu & Bronze Miniature Clock
An Important French Louis XVI period miniature ormolu or gilt bronze and patinated bronze mantle clock. French , circa: 1700's. . Measuring: 7.5" high by 5.75" wide. White enamel dial measuring: 1.5" across.

The bronze clock depicts that of a young prince holding an open book in one hand and a pet monkey in the other by a leash while seated upon a tree and rock-work base.

The movement signed "Caeger a Caen" Thomas Caeger (maitre 1765). Caeger was among the finest of the 18th century clock makers. He collaborated with the greatest bronziers of his day such as: Robert Osmond, Pierre-Phillippe Thomire, and Claude Galle. Caeger was employed Royalty and persons of the highest Nobility.

Bronze case signed " R.O" four times. Robert Osmond (maitre 1746-1789). Osmond designed numerous clock cases of which only around a dozen were signed and known to exist today.

Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. Original patina present and intact. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.

1875-1903 ---- Collection of a lady of Nobility.

1903-1970's --- Collection of Mrs. Horace Dodge (Dodge automobiles).

Mrs. Dodge died at the age of 103 in Michigan, United States. She was a collector of Museum quality and rare objects of virtue. Of her many loved objects of art, this miniature clock was one of her most favorite and prized possessions.

1970's-1992 --- Collection of Mr. Howard Huff.
