French Charles X Bronze Ormolu & Rock Crystal Sphere
A Fine Charles X style ormolu or gilt bronze mounted rock crystal base supporting a Large rock crystal sphere specimen. French, circa: 1875-1895. This bronze work although very Empire and neoclassical falls under the style of France's Charles X period which followed directly after the Empire period. Measuring: 8.25" high.

This exceptional stand and sphere are carved out of rock crystal which is not crystal or glass but a natural hardstone which is prized by collectors now just as it was then. Its patterns and natural inclusions inside catch light to reveal a rainbow of colors. The bronze stand depicts three swans each holding a ring in its mouth raised upon a lion paw footed leg. Unusually large sphere specimen of rock crystal 4" is diameter and the sphere alone weighs 4 pounds.

High quality casting with very sharp crisp details through out the entire base. Stunning soft matte gilding accented by brilliant burnished areas of gilding for contrast and beauty.

Overall excellent condition. Original gilding still intact. The rock crystal still retains its highly polished surface.
