An 18th century Louis XVI period old master oil painting. French, circa: 1760-1770. Measuring: Image/Site: 8.25" by 6.25" and Framed: 18" by 16".
An oil on canvas laid down on panel. Allegorical scene with three cherub like figures in various
costume at the base of a marble bust of Marie Antoinette. The figures seem to be paying homage to the sculpture on
pedestal while carving an inscription with the tip of an arrow into the marble. It seems to read something like
"Bon jour Madame" or Hello Miss. The detail rivals any fine work in any museum. There are two dogs carved in
stone that are banister tops that mount a stair well outside the lush and lavish landscape of the garden. Off in the golden sky
Pegasus the winged horse is in flight. Another detail is the doll that belong to the court jester which
sets on the grass at the base of the column.
