An Exceptional Charles X period ormolu mounted cut crystal
Baccarat centerpiece. French, circa: 1815-1825. This Piece although very
Empire and Neoclassical fall under the reign of the Charles the X period which followed directly after the Empire period.
French, circa: 1815-1825. Measuring: 12.25"
high by 10.25" wide by 8" deep.
Lost wax
method was used to
create the very fine detail and high quality cast Pieces. This piece is in
original superb Museum quality
condition. Hand chased
and then mercury gilded with Imperial amounts of gold. This is on
par with any example found in any
Museum or Important Institution housing French early 19th century
decorative arts. The gilding is all original and still in tact. The rich
and costly Process of mercury gilding is a fine example here as the
matte finish areas of yellow gold are accented by highlighted areas of
burnished brilliance such as the eyes and raised details. The burnishing
is such quality it reflects with perfection as a mirror does.
The bottom Cut
heavy thick Baccarat crystal base is rare to find early objects today
and quite prized by collectors. The top oval bowl is not the original
but has become a marriage with the piece and fits perfectly and would
have been almost exactly what was there originally. It dates to a much
later date but certainly makes the piece complete.
Super condition
throughout with both sections of glass in excellent condition with no
chips or cracks at all. The color is brilliant and white in both.
The
bronze work is possibly attributed to Pierre Phillipe Thomire and similar
works in all Bronze can be found with the exact castings and
form as this one. Many of his works were not signed but the
quality is second to none and stand out as such, this object of virtue is a testament to his fine craftsmanship.
